It was all Wright in the wet

Conditions were not that good with persistent drizzle last Saturday morning but eighteen players still went around in a stableford competition, seeing David Wright having no problems handling the conditions.

David Wright was one of the first to hit off and was one of only four to crack the thirty barrier, overall winner of the day with 35.

With low numbers it was decided to have just two grades for the day which saw David Klenke take out the A grade with 32 points, having 17 on the first nine, which was also enough for him to win the Terminus award, Don Bell was runner-up on 28.

In B grade it was Damon Mayes taking out the prize with 33, having 19 points on the back nine, to beat Des Kelly on 30, who was the winner of the meat tray raffle.

Des could have finished a bit better but thought he was playing a par competition at one hole, so picked up his ball when he still had a simple thirty foot putt to pick up another point.

Des was also commenting on his playing partner Perry Jones on how he was going down the middle of the fairway off the tee, but something went wrong on the last few holes, reported that as he took out a big divot on the fifteenth the ball trickled down the fairway and his club somehow went sideways and then on the last had three chip shots before even getting on the fairway.

Other member in the group John Williams found himself on the awkward slope of the dam, with Des finding his ball, John deciding to play it where it lay, only to have two almost airies before picking it up.

There were a few others to have problems one the last with plenty of early hits, as the rain got to them, Ian Schroeter making a mess of it as he tried to crack the thirty barrier, as did Tim Formby who then proceeded back to the club house to make the till malfunction.

Yes Kooka trailed the field again with just four points for the day, picking up two on the first hole and then next time around on that hole, with a different tee off, had two on the tenth.

Didn't see Allen Anderson driving around on Saturday perhaps his buggy is still stuck in the ditch from Wednesday!

The putting contest at the end of the day rose to $45 as Lyndon Gill, John Williams and Perry Jones showed that they still had no idea how to putt.

While the rain might have caused problems on the day it will certainly help the growth on the fairways which with the irrigation are starting to cover over well, long time since they need to be mown during the middle of the summer season.

This Saturday round is Stroke, see you there.
