Trevor Calaby has been fairly consistent this season and last Saturday was no exception in winning the par competition with a +3
Of course Trev said he played well, particularly having landed on the eighteenth in two to have a four for the hole to cap his day off, which started with a par on the first hole.
Trev said he could have finished higher but his putting was nothing to write home about and he did have a bit of trouble on the sixteenth, probably due to the shark ball he was playing with, given to him by Randall Pitt the Wednesday before, having lost his ball.
Naturally that type of ball headed for the dam on the sixteenth but after a few skips on the water beached itself on the bank from where Trev was able to get out of trouble and still square the hole.
Jamie McPhee continued his good form of late to win B Grade on +2 and Nobby with the same score was the winner in A Grade, unlucky not to pick up an eagle on the seventh but he did win the meat tray raffle.
While C Grade Trevor Calaby was the overall winner for the day, it was Peter McNulty up the top of that grade again with a +1, to win the Hammer 'N' Tongs voucher, from last week's overall winner Simon Jantke being square for the day.
With thirty eight starters for the Dennis Gatehouse sponsored day, there were plenty of different shots played in one of the last groups, Red Sorrell having an interesting round, starting well being all square on the front nine before he fell apart to finish on -2, a couple of times borrowing Kooka's left handed club to get out from behind trees, taking four shots at one stage to find a clear path to the hole.
Speaking of Kooka he was at it again collecting the NAGA award with a -12, losing interest after the first nine holes, looking to be deliberately putting away from the hole to protect his handicap.
Another member of the group Geoff Hall, got caught yet again being on the top of the down hill green fifth hole with his second shot, which saw him proceed to take four putts to get the ball in the hole.
The other member of the group Ian Schroeter certainly had trouble off the tee on the day, finishing with -6 but he did have one excellent shot on the fourteenth.
While Sean Naylon's group were still on the green, Ian wondered if he should play his second shot which was 180 meters away, so he decided the players would be safe at that distance, so without warning those on the green, saw the ball land on the top side of the green and roll down the slope, go between Mark Lynn's feet and lip the cup to just miss his eagle but two putts later had a win on the hole.
Michael Beasley should have gone home after the first nine holes being -8 but persistence paid off in the end picking up his game to limit the final damage to -10.
This Saturday it is a Stableford competition and the second qualifying round of the Captain's Cup, while the Spring Feast is on Sunday.
