It was mentioned last issue that Derek Keane had a chance of winning the stroke competition last Saturday with all the good players in the play offs, and that was the case, coming in with a nett 72 to beat Dave Klenke on 73 and Geoff Hall on 75.
Derek also picked up the longest drive for the competition, while Geoff won nearest the pin in the sixth, to make up for his misfortune on that hole the previous Saturday.
Geoff still struck a bit of bad luck, with a late hit off, as he and partners Ian Schroeter and Dennis Gatehouse, being the last in, looked like drowned rats as they got caught in the late rain.
Trevor Calaby said that they should have quit when it started raining as he would, Cal then posed the question if he would have stopped if the rain fell while playing in the championships, Cal saying not if he was leading.
Next Saturdays normal competition is a stableford sponsored by Mark Condon, while on Sunday it is the finals of the club championships, with the A Grade pair Andrew Hentschke and Sean Naylon hitting off at 9:00am, B Grade Lachlan Williams and Jamie McPhee at 10:00am and C Grade Kooka and Peter McNulty 10:30am.
The Club invites all interested golfers and supporters to the course on Sunday to watch, walk around and support all the competitors in the finals.
The club house will be open with a sausage sizzle later in the day, there will be plenty of buggies available to jump in if needed.
Best of luck to all competitors.
