It was another master stroke by Andrew Hentschke last Saturday to win for the second week in a row, this time winning his own prize as sponsor for the day.
It was a stroke round last Saturday for the monthly medal and Andrew, off a six handicap, came in with a nett 73 to win on a countback from Kirk Richardson, Andrew also winning the putting competition on the day with 24 for the eighteen holes.
In B Grade Kym Nelson had the best nett score of 79, but it was Sean Walsh winning the monthly medal, while in C Grade John Lee excelled for the day with a nett 77 to win that grade and medal from Eric March on 78.
The pins were in some strange positions for the day which caused a few problems for the thirty four starters, seeing Gordon Robson land on the second hole in three only to walk away with an eight.
Last season's captain Chris Barker, after seven pars and two double bogies on the first nine, had a great experience on the fourteenth, four times putting up the hill to see the ball come back to him each time and then on the eighteenth was over the back in two, chipped on for three then putted several times, one having the strength Kooka usually puts behind the ball when putting, with his partners saying it landed down on the seventeenth tee block, as he had a ten on the hole.
Speaking of Kooka it is believed he had a 17 with one putt on the seventh and second time around on the sixteenth had fourteen with two putts.
His group included Derek Keane, Kym Nelson and Ian Schroeter certainly got their monies worth on the seventh and sixteenth holes, having a combined 70 shots for the two holes.
Derek also had fun on the fifteenth par three over the creek, as his tee shot landed in an unplayable lie in the trees on the right hand side, so he hopped back into the cart to tee off again and promptly hit the ball back into the same clump of trees.
Dennis Gatehouse didn't finish too bad with a nett 85, showing his talent in finishing behind the the big tree on the right near the green on the par three fifteenth and then was cleaver enough to hit the nearest the pin marker tube with his second shot, to spoil his chance of par.
There was a few smart players on the seventh or sixteenth second time around, Nobby, off the tee hitting the ball out of sight up near the corner, so far infact he was seen trudging back up the hill to have another tee shot in not being able to find his first shot.
Damon Mayes was on the green with his second shot on the par five first time around but the green patch was the fifth/fourteenth tee block as he finished with a six, and Geoff Hall, got up to the gobble bush on the corner, also took the dam on with his second shot, with the big tree near the dam wall appearing to have got in the way.
Geoff was confident he made it over the water and he did landing just behind the pump shed near the drain and proceeding to get his par.
Speaking of the dam Don Bell and Mark Condon showed how it was done to avoid trouble, as they both skimmed their ball over the water to get on the other side.
Sean Naylon who won longest drive for the day, was a bit puzzled where his ball was on fourth after his shot to the green apparently hit the bench between the green and the fifth tee off point and finishing up on the seventh green, with the group playing that hole moving it out of the way thinking it was a discarded ball.
Allen Anderson must have been trying to play to his age with a nett 90 but he did a lot better in picking the lucky number for the meat tray.
Kym Nelson was lucky he actually won the B Grade for the day as he was not mentioned during the presentations, but funny how his card was first to be drawn out for the lucky putt, co-captain Andrew Pavy having said his card was not there.
There were apparently a couple of cards that were missing in the end, as Mick Beasley and Mike Semple said that the wind was so strong that they were ripped up and blew away after their efforts on the sixteenth.
This Saturday it is a Stableford competition sponsored by Body Sense it also is another round of the Formby Shield.
