As the early players have won the last couple of comps, Andrew Hentschke and his playing Partners hit off before the heavy rain started to fall Saturday morning and it proved to be the right call as he won the stableford competition with 36 points on a count back from Frank Clennett.
The day sponsored by Kym Nelson, with thirty five starters, saw Andrew having an early light shower to contend with along with a couple of inconveniences in losing his tees, while his umbrella up to protect himself from the elements also broke.
Guess that was the reason he looked a bit weather beaten at awards time later in the day.
A Grade winner Frank Clennett is certainly having trouble getting his handicap to blow out, coming in with what he thought was a 38 but in handing in his card to captain Andrew Pavy had a point deducted but wait there was more as on further investigation he lost another point to go back to 36 points, wonder who marked your card on the day Frank.
It was also a count back in A Grade for the next pairing, Troy Williams who has taken a few weeks holiday to spend reasonable time on the golf course trying to get his handicap down having the desired effect as he tipped out Brenton Roberts both with 35 points.
Sean Walsh with 35 points was the winner of B Grade thanks to a count back over Damon Mayes, Sean saying the weather was a bit shabby to start with but it obviously didn't affect his game too much.
There is always a good story with Damon Mayes, this time walking into the clubhouse to get his card from Karen chucked his car keys on the bar to pay his comp fees and walked away with his keys still sitting on the bar.
Lucky we are all honest Damon to chase you up and give them to you so you could drive home, hopefully better than your wayward shot from the eleventh fairway back onto the twelfth, straight into Gilly's cart, waiting to tee-off on the eleventh.
Peter McNulty was back in the winners circle, taking the C Grade with 28 points, also collecting the longest drive for the 19-36 handicappers, while Trevor Calaby was runner-up in this grade with 25.
Trevor however did have a win when he putted his ball in to win the lucky card hole, suppose one should mention that captain Andrew Pavy winning the show, accidentally?, dropped the flag stick in a line to his putt and cleverly and with skill Cal was able to take advantage to hit it and roll the ball into the hole, with a great putt, and a very popular one as he put the $25 on the bar after.
Never much to talk about Geoff Hall but after 9 holes with 18 points he ventured into the clubhouse for a pie in one hand and a West End in the other, walked up to his electrified buggy and pushed the go button too hard and it took off too quickly for Geoff to stop.
Quickly he put his can on the ground to try and control the situation only for his buggy to fall over along with his can, guess which one he was concerned about?
Perhaps he should have got another West End as he ran out of energy later, his playing partners Kingsley and Gilly both out drove him on the par four last, as his tee shot only landed about 35 meters off the tee block, Gilly, a winner on the day with the meat tray, commenting to him that he was looking to land his drive on the green.
Brian Simpson had problems with the drain across the third fairway, apparently getting lift off with his effort to get out but that was about all as it dropped back into the drain.
Brian a normally clam knowledgeable player also had a few tree problems along with his hat which kept coming off in the windless conditions and obviously is needing a new glove with a bit of grip on them so he can hang onto his clubs.
And for Kooka how about letting someone else win the NAGA for a change.
This Saturday is a Stroke round sponsored by Andrew Hentschke, incorporating the Monthly Medal, Rayney Trophy, Eclectic and Formby Shield competitions.
The club has purchased and are introducing new cards as of this Saturday's competition, so please ensure before commencing your round that you have the correct card as the index has changed on some of the holes.
Players are also asked to fill up their sand buckets and fill in divots found on the second and eleventh fairways besides the one you make.
Finally the club sends get well messages to Peter Potbury, Ray Kingsbury and Carol Gill on their recent illness, hoping to see you all up and about.
