The Strathlabyn Golf Club was the place to be last Saturday with 51 starters taking part in a Stableford competition, with tough competition throughout the grades it was Lachlan Williams heading the large field with an impressive 42 points.
Last years B Grade Finalist Lachlan has now firmly cemented his place in the A Grade with 24 on the front nine followed by a slightly less impressive 18 on the back nine missing a tap in putt on the eighteenth but he did get the longest drive with a massive hit on the twelfth.
A Grade saw close competition with Mark Condon fending off Sean Naylon via a countback as both men came in with 37 points with Derek Keane snapping at their heels on 36.
David Klenke trucked his way to the B Grade honours with 39 points trailing behind by 2 points was fellow trucker Damon Mayes on 37.
Peter Drury was the only other person to crack the 40 mark on his way to winning the C Grade with 40 points followed by Michael Formby who continues his good Saturday form coming home with 38 points.
Kooka came back after a week off and returned to his usual form taking out the NAGA Award unable to crack the double digits, but this time he had an excuse, he injured his back in the practice range before the round started, when asked why he was still hobbling around the course Kooka replied "I paid for the round and I will bloody well finish it", are you part Scottish Kooka?
With 51 starters of course comes some new faces with Dan Adams playing to get some handicap also getting nearest the pin on the eighth.
Other new faces were Robert Lyon and Henry Kelly, both of them were having some tree trouble with Robert while able to hit a big ball had some directional issues finding the trees on more than a few occasions while Henry tried to match Robert on the eighth only to end up having a miss hit and finding the small shrub on the left side just past the seventeenth tee block.
We hope to see the three of them return on a regular bases.
Robert and Henry weren't the only ones to find the trees with A Grader and Club President Randall Pitt trying to curl the ball around the corner on the tenth only to curl the ball a bit to early and lodge it in the tree about ten feet up, I hope Randall remembered the golden rule and played the ball were it lied?
Graeme Noble also had a day out with a nearest the pin on the fifteenth and following his eagle last week on the twelfth this week he had an eagle on the third, there have been a lot of eagles on the third and twelfth holes recently, maybe its down to all the great work Red Sorrell and his ground crew have been doing?
Speaking of Red he was lucky enough to win the meat tray raffle.
Next week is Stroke for Round 4 of the Coopers Mild Summer Cup.
