Kooka and Formby team wins

Last Saturday the club held a foursomes competition and believe it or not the B Grade combination for the day of Kooka and Michael Formby won.

The pair not noted for their expertise on the course most times, both said they had a fairly uneventful round, unusually sticking to the fairways and dropping putts to finish with a nett 67 for the round.

Their effort beat the A Grade combination of Graeme Bertholini and Graeme Noble who finished with a nett 68, another A Grade team of Phil Perrin and Sean Naylon third with a nett 71.

Speaking of the latter combination they had trouble filling out their score card needing two goes at it, the same for Gordon Robson and Ryan Carpenter but Ian Schroeter, playing with Kingsley Handke, needed three goes at filling out the card, Schroeter missing  writing down the scores on several holes, no doubt hoping to come up with a better score.

Speaking of Schroeter his partner Kingsley was a bit annoyed that Perry Jones shifted his cart to stop the shot coming out of the trees hitting it, Kingsley saying it should not have been moved as it would have stopped the ball rolling back into the rough.

Kingsley continually put Schroeter behind trees on the round, so on Sunday's inter pennants competition he had to dig himself out of being near the trees, but he did say he got a birdie on the ninth when under the big tree on the left hand side of the green saw his shot hit the lower branch but land on the green and get a birdie, the birdie however was a willy wagtail that was on the green at the same time, luckily no damage done.

Perry and Michael Rigby-Meth were in a bit of trouble when Riga's put the ball in the creek on the par three fifteenth off the tee but his partner saved the day almost, lobbing the ball on the green from the penalty shot, the pair still only managing five for the hole, the same score of two of the other par three's they played.

It was Schroeter's turn to give Kingsley a  bit of his own medicine off the tee on the sixteenth just getting over the creek to land in some very rough territory.

The pair finished with a nine much to the delight of Perry and Riga's as the former sunk a long putt off the green to pick up a par.

Curator Red Sorrell finished up without a partner for the day but still went around for a hit, and when the president was asked who Red was playing with said it was Red one playing with Red two.

Dennis Gatehouse certainly has trouble with his partner in Kim Wittwer taking any advice, Dennis kindly leaving Kim in the clay on the edge of the dam on the sixteenth.

It took a fair while to sort out what to do, Dennis telling Him to take a drop out but Kim said no and decided he could get the ball out.

Well Kim swung his club only to miss the ball and get splattered in clay that provided another penalty, also including have to wash the dishes with Andrew Smith and Michael Formby after Sunday's Pennants meals, kindly organised by Graeme Bertholini.

On the fifteenth Tim Formby thanked Andrew Smith for leaving the ball on the path near the creek, Tim was a bit nervous as what to do as Andrew said the Saturday before Lyndon Gill was on the path near the creek and while Andrew, Ashley Gibson and Max Schebella drove their carts up to the hole they looked back to see that Gilly was not in his cart.

Max went back to find out where Gilly was, not that mobile these days, only to find in playing his shot had fallen into the creek and needed rescuing.

Despite being bruised Gilly still turned up for the club at Meningie the day after for the par three competition.

Knowing what happened to Gilly, Tim decided the best policy was to tee off again.

On Saturday Tim was also a bit disappointed at Andrew's putting, at least leaving six simple tap ins for him to complete the hole, not like Max Schebella who bragging how he was left a twelve foot putt on the fifteenth after Bob Wood's tee shot and sunk it for a birdie two.

Thanks must go to Kym Nelson for re-designing the signs on all the tee off's, they look quite smart.

Next Saturday it is a stableford competition.
