Things were certainly hot on the Strathalbyn Golf Course last Saturday as A Grader Phil Perrin took out the stroke competition in a field of 35 players.
Phil who had a few average rounds of late, this time made sure his card was handed in, having had a nett 67 to beat another A Grader in Derek Keane on 68, with David Wright in B Grade also having a 68.
In C Grade Michael Beasley had one of his better rounds to win that grade with 71 from Michael Rigby-Meth on 72.
Those not to perform well on the day were Andrew Hentschke being last in A Grade on 78, Gordon Robson in a similar position in B Grade with 88, while Ashley Gibson was almost last in C Grade with 88.
Kooka again retained the NAGA Award very comfortably with a nett 158 in C Grade, having 185 off the stick, 85 on the front nine and 100 on the back nine, having had 16 on the on the fifth hole after finishing behind the rainbow toilet, maybe because that was how he was playing.
The Club sent several teams to Meningie last Sunday for the Par Three Nindethana Day and Kooka also managed the NAGA there as well with 159 off the stick from 22 par three holes.
Just another story on Kooka that he was walking his dog recently around town while holding a large bag of bottles and cans to give to a friend, when he met one person who must have thought Kooka was desperate to get enough money to feed his dog, as they both look fairly shaggy, so the man finished his can of drink and said "clearly all the money goes to the dog, here have this" and hands Kooka the can to add to the collection.
Mark Condon who finished with a nett 73 on Saturday, went out for a practice hit recently to try and knock a bit of sense into his game, as he didn't open his boot far enough to get his gear out and in the process managed to crack his head on the boot lid.
Also apparently having a bit of trouble with vehicles is Barry Blucher in trying to attach his buggy and trailer to other people's cars, as his car is not quite setup for towing at the moment, twice now the connection not quite happening and coming adrift.
Congratulations to Red Sorrell, a couple of Wednesday's ago when he scored at hole in one on the sixth.
