Bushranger Jones steals the day

In what turned out to be a hot day, some were smart enough to hit off early including Perry Jones, accused of being a bushranger, in winning the stroke competition with a nett 65 in a field of 43.

Perry said it was just one of those days, that happens every three years or so, that left another noted bushranger in Des "Ned" Kelly scratching his head on the result, as he and his playing mates had a long pit stop half way around to re-cooperate and try to come in with a good score, which he did with a nett 72.

Perry, despite not having any notable drives off the tee, at least finished on the fairway on all but a couple of holes and then straightened up his putting for the occasion to have 43 on the front nine and 46 on the back nine and having worked hard to get his handicap to blow out during the past year, reaped the reward.

Next best on the day was the A Grade winner in Chris Barker from another A Grader Stuart Warnock on 70 and Michael Young with 70 in C Grade.

Gordon Robson certainly had the Christmas chimes ringing in his ears for the round when playing with Dave Bell and Don Bell, as he was top in B Grade with 72 from Des Kelly, Brenton Welk and David Wright all on 72.

Gordon also won the meat tray raffle to round off his effort for the day.

Brian Simpson who along with Kingsley Handke and John Williams said that they coached Perry to his win on the day, really wasn't setting a good example to follow, as the resident kangaroos watched him on the fifteenth repeat his effort from the past two holes of missing a one foot putt, and the roos also saw him drive off to the sixteenth to lose his ball and having to trudge back up the hill to play another shot.

Highlight of the day for John Williams was trying to get his banana skin in the bin on the thirteenth tee block, sitting on the passenger side seat of the cart, while Perry was trying to tee off, taking the liberty to drive the cart to the bin and while chucking the skin in the bin slipped up when trying to put his foot on the brake pedal but like most old drivers hit the go pedal, ran into the bin and was promptly thrown out of the cart, luckily no visible damage was done.

Speaking of cart Randall Pitt must have sorted his out, coming home with a nett 73 on Saturday, after Red Sorrell in cleaning out the shed with a new cleaner recently, made sure Randall's cart and gear got covered in dust.

Talking about trudging back up the hill to the sixteenth tee it was also In Schroater doing so, not for another tee shot but to pick up his water bottle along with Kooka's left behind, but that was the end of his cracker round on the back nine, having worn himself out with that exercise, as he then found plenty of water available to easily go into the dam and finish with eleven for the hole.

Playing mate Kooka had what was a good score for him most times with a 129 off the stick, as he started the day with a ten on the first hole, then seven on the second, then having the nerve to score an eagle on the par five third.

To make up for his feat he had twelve on the ninth and eighteenth holes.

A Grade Phil Perrin must have thought he would be with Kooka at the end of the day, with an early four over, then three followed by two over the card, as he finished with a nett 77.

Ash Gibson didn't fair too well in the head coming in with a nett 89, already looking like a beetroot after a pit stop at half way mark and asked why he didn't start early, blamed Max Schebella for not picking him up, but that would have been boring watching Mac and Andrew Smith playing down the middle of the fairways, well that's what they said they did.

Tim Formby reckoned he was going well until he reached the fourteenth when he proceeded to hit tree after tree on his way to the hole to finish with nine, still having 45 off the stick for the back nine, for a nett 77 on the day.
