No stopping Chris Barker with 40 points

There seems to be no stopping Chris Barker at the moment after winning the Captains Cup the Saturday before, coming out last Saturday to take care of a field of forty eight starters and win the stableford competition with 40 points.

In Chris' round were two birdies and then an eagle on the third, after sinking a long putt from the back edge of the green, as he picked up nineteen points on the first nine and then twenty one on the second.

Derek Kean was back on track in A Grade to pick up thirty eight points, having a bit of luck when he duffed his second shot on the third that went straight into the long drive marker which allowed him to have another shot, lucky man.

Derek certainly loved hitting things around the course, seeing his tee shot on the seventh being a worm burner that hit the bin next to the ladies tee block.

It is rumoured that Derek has bought himself a cart and next Saturday will be repaying Randall for his kindness over the years and chauffeur him around next Saturday, hope he handles it better than Saturday's drives.

Co-Captain Graeme Bertholini was next best in A Grade on 36 and he also had the longest drive for the day.

In B Grade Red Sorrell is certainly doing his best to get back in A Grade, having the best there with 35 points, from Mark Lynn and Michael Clarke on 34.

Red did mention that he didn't tee the ball up high enough on the eleventh tee block as the reason he had an airie.

IN C Grade Brodie Henderson had a day out with 38 points to be three ahead of Bruce Carr.

Looks like Gordon Robson had shown Brian Simpson how to play a shank shot, Brian using it to his advantage to find the dam on the sixteenth.

Speaking of Gordon he reckoned that he could see his ball a lot better last Saturday after dropping over a bucket of pool cleaner during the week and splashing some of it in his eye, must have still lost sight of things a bit with just 31 points for the day.

On the subject of poor eye sight, Ian Schroeter was certainly having trouble being carried away with the hoards of mozzies around the course at the moment, spraying some repellent but he forgot he was still wearing his sunglasses on his face and then couldn't figure out why his vision was all blurry.

Airies must have been a go on a perfect day for golf, Dennis Gatehouse having three of them in the drain on the thirteenth with the ball below his feet, after the third swing put the ball in his pocket, perhaps should have taken a penalty shot first up and finish up with more than 20 points for the day.

It was a case of ding dong last Saturday as the two Bells went around, David back after a long time out to have a creditable 30 on the day, while brother Don picked up 31 points.

Andrew Smith reckons he couldn't buy a putt on the day to finish down the list of 26 points, should have taken a lesson from playing partner Perry Jones who didn't need to putt after being on the edge of the dam on the sixteenth, firing off a seven iron to get the ball on the green and roll it into the hole for a birdie.

Another member of the group, Tim Formby, reckoned that he had lost the plot after the first nine, still coming in with 32 points, must have still being getting over celebrating a hole in one from Wednesday's modified hit off placings to various greens competition.

Kooka, who again took out the NAGA award, had his playing partners Ian Schroeter, Randall Pitt, who won the meat tray raffle, and Derek Keane perplexed as to where his shot off the fifteenth tee went until Kooka explained that he had hit a beautiful square cut over the little box with the broken tees in it and out of bounds, no wonder he keeps winning the NAGA award, 11 points this time for the round.

Here's to a speedy recovery for Allen Anderson after having trouble with the wrong bias on his bowls again, this time tripping over his bag with them in it after taking them out of his car upon arrival at home, only to cop a few nasty injuries, perhaps tripping over golf balls could have been less painful Allen.
